Condolences / Guest Book

  1. Sad to know that Ron has passed away. Will always remember him using his annual leave to take Margaret and his Holden to BATHURST in the early days. A great guy to have worked with at the Bank. Car racing was his sport.

    All the best Margaret.

    Regards Colin Smith

    • Hello Colin,
Ron certainly was a one-eyed Holden supporter, and we went to Bathurst, each year, up till 1997. Right to the end he had an interest in motor sport. It was lovely to hear from you – take care, Margaret

  2. Dear Margaret,
We offer our condolences for your sad loss. Ron was a lovely gentle man who will always be remembered by all of us.
Our thoughts are with you during this sad time.

  3. Our deepest sympathy to Margaret for the loss of Ron.
Ron was blessed with the enviable traits of being placid, tolerant, loyal and witty. Over the years as best friend to my brother Elias since their school years, I had the good fortune to enjoy Ron’s company as well. Welcomed to our household by our parents it was as though I had a second brother.

This friendship continued throughout the years, and in particular the strong bond with Elias continued to grow to the end.
I will always have the memories of his sense of humour, sharp wit and of the many hours Ron spent with our family in front of the black and white television. Those were the days…………thank you Ron.

  4. Dear Margaret,
I fondly remember Ron’s great sense of humour and of course his love of cars. He was always a kind, caring, thoughtful and genuine person. I know that he will be greatly missed by so many. Holding you in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

    • Hello Gea,

Thank you for your beautiful comments. Ron had a warped sense of humour and loved to stir people, but he could also have a joke on himself. He never lost his love of cars (Holden, of course) and was a keen Peter Brock fan to the end.
Hope you are all well, Margaret

  5. Margaret,
Please accept my sincere condolences for the passing of Ron. Though time and tide has meant that we haven’t met for some time, both you and Ron have always been in my thoughts. My time with Ron at NAB and particularly, as a passenger in his car following a nighttime car rally were some of the best times in my life. We will all miss his quick wit, dry sense of humour and gentle spirit.

    • Hello John,
Unfortunately it has been a while since we have caught up – life gets in the way sometimes. Have heard many stories about Ron’s driving adventures and wonder how he made it to 74! Ron certainly missed the people from the bank and we would reminisce about the good old days.
      Take care, Margaret

  6. Very sad to hear of Ron’s passing. We have very fond memories of the Mulgrave catch ups across the years. Ron had a delightful sense of humour and a quick wit. Not a bad tennis player in the day as well. Our thoughts and love are with you Marg at this sad time. N & J x

  7. We are all so saddened to hear about Ron. Although not a blood relative, “Uncle” Ron was family to Claire and Emma. We will all miss his quick wit and gentle ways and especially, our lively banter around the table. Boo will miss his boundless love and extra treats too. He is always in our hearts. Our deepest sympathy, love and hugs to you.
Violet, Craig, Claire, Peter, Emma, Ternelle and Boo.

  8. Margaret,

Our condolences on the passing of Ron. A great NAB workmate and friend. Lots of great memories of Ron, Tennis, Commodores & Bathurst and the Dinners At Mulgrave Country Club. He will be sadly missed.

    Ian & Maureen Goudie
    • Hello Ian & Maureen,
Ron had many happy memories of the people he worked with and wanted to keep in touch after he retired. So he really enjoyed the dinners at the Mulgrave Club – would have liked to have more. He also remained a Brock and Holden fanatic to the end.
Thank you for your kind comments, Margaret

  9. Margaret it was so sad to hear of Ron’s passing. I have very fond memories of our days at NAB. He was the quintessential professional and a roll model for myself and others. Ron was always positive and good natured as well as having a wicked sense of humour. A true gentleman. Our thoughts are with you during this very difficult and sad time.

    Joe Mifsud
    • Hello Joe and Heather,

Thank you for your kind words. Ron had a long career in the bank, and when he retired he really missed the social interactions he had with workmates. While he would stir others, he also never took himself too seriously.

  10. Sad to learn of Ron’s passing, Margaret. In April 1959, I met Ron the first day we moved in 2 doors away. Ron and John were kicking the football on the road. Ron and I were then both 11. John was 8. I remember when Ron and John erected a “Pole Vault” in their backyard. The three of us used a large curtain rod as the pole. There was nothing but the bare ground to break our falls. It was a miracle there were no serious injuries. Crazy times! We three used to play “tennis matches” on their front lawn. We were all playing for sheep stations. In our late teens, for quite some time, a small group, which included Ron and myself (and Elias?) used to go to the pictures in Oakleigh every Friday night. The front gate at Ron’s place used to be a regular meeting place, and I would often drift down there around dusk. We lived close to the local milk bar, and with so many passers-by, it was not unusual to have 3 or 4 standing around having a chat. I remember Ron’s love of car racing, his Monaro, his favourite TV shows, and how welcoming he was whenever you showed up on his doorstep. Thanks for the happy memories, Ron.

    Max and Linda Brewster
    • Hello Max and Linda,
Hearing some of the stories of Ron’s childhood years I often wondered how he survived to become an adult. We certainly weren’t wrapped up in cotton wool in our day. Ron loved his family home and it was a hard to decision to sell it.
Ron kept his love of cars (Holdens, of course) and motorsport till the end. He was also a die-hard Brock supporter. Thank you for the memories.
      Keep well, Margaret

  13. We will miss seeing Ron at the Longwarry Fire Brigade. The happy smiling gentleman, who was always happy to help out at the Market, catering jobs, Christmas partys, and brigade meetings.
