  4. My dear Dad
I love you and will never forget the inspiration you were and your unconditional love.
From a child to the woman I am. You were always there and I will cherish your love and the precious times we shared forever.
God bless you Dad till we meet again xx

    Susan and Ivan Garvey
    • What a life span of memories we have. Our parents did shape us into the people we are today and as we know they have had quite a few years to mould us into the people we are. Dad knew how difficult life was for you at the moment. He knew your heart was being torn but right to the end he was worried about you and Ivan and keeping you both in his thoughts regardless of what he was going through. I feel that Dad knew that you were taking your courage and inspiration from him over this past 18 months. He knew that just sitting alongside you would help you with all that was being thrown your way. Remember to use your heart to stay with the Dad you love, to gain the support you need in the times ahead. Take care.

  5. I was out this morning for a walk and passed where it all began for you on the Oldtown road 95 years ago and all i could think was another one of that wonderful family gone but not forgotten, one of Ireland’s sons who went and made a great life for himself in Australia surrounded by a great loving family .RIP uncle Robert , Hopefully you have meet up with Mum again for a good old catch up

    Martin Fitzpatrick
    • What a beautiful image you portrayed to the family about Dad. He would have been chuffed to know that you took that stroll for him down Old Town Road once more. Ireland’s loss was indeed Australia’s gain, even though Ireland was never far away from Dad’s heart. We were indeed the privileged ones to have him for so long. May you and your family continue to share memories of Dad with all the extended family. The Stevenson Family

      Barbara Bird
  6. My heart is breaking Dad. I’ve cried bucket loads. I have not been strong like you. I am so sad but yet I am also at peace too, knowing that you had such a long and fulfilled life. Your pleasures were quite simple, your needs were but a few. If you were happy then we were too. You lived for your family, not just to receive love but to give love in abundance. You were my listener and my support. You were always so proud of me and my family. You were my Dad, who I just love so very much. Your daughter Barbara xxxxx

After 44 years, I can recall so many of your antics when you sat in your chair stirring up the family with many a side way wink and a nod in my direction, dragging them all in hook line and sinker. Always the fisherman! Arthur Bird x

Pa, you were adored by your precious grandsons, Nigel and Jason. They have so many memories that they can draw upon. They thank you for giving them your time always. They will miss you immensely. xx

    Lots of Love, Tayani xx

    Tayani Barrett
    • Pa told me the other day that you were growing up too fast. I think he wanted all his grandchildren to stay little. He found it incredible that you were up to getting behind the wheel as a learner. He remembered holding a little red head bundle in his arms as if it was yesterday. He would have watched with interest as you progressed through life. Pa knew you loved him and was always happy to see you each day. Thank you for being you!

      Barbara Bird

You have done so much for Dad, dropping by on your way home from work, doing a mountain of odd jobs at the drop of a hat and now you need to be there to support his baby daughter through her journey of grief. Please continue to help her to stay strong.

  11. Dad. My Life is going to have one giant hole missing in it now. You were always there and had time for me. My kids loved you to bits and were so proud to have you as there Pa. You have taught me so much in life and gave me the best. You always kept me smiling and on my toes. You are the strongest, Loving, caring, stubborn man I know and was like that until the end. I was so lucky to have you as my Dad. Sleep Peacefully May all your pains go away. My heart is broken and my tears keep falling. Dad you will be forever missed.
    Your Baby Girl Bernadette xxxx

    Bernadette
    • Bernadette you will always be Dad’s baby girl. Yes there is a big hole in your life now but Dad would want you to go on living and bounce back. He was always in awe of your energy so use this energy to develop more interests and to continue to nurture and love your family in the same way he gave you so much love. He is counting on you to keep the spud farmers in business. Know that even though your heart is breaking now, Dad’s memories and love is so much a part of you. He will never be far away.

    • Dad so appreciated your visit and making connections with the family. It was amazing to hear and see the similarities in your Dad and ours even though they lived so far apart. We could definitely tell that they were brothers. Dad always enjoyed the updates he received through the family. What a blessing to have been given the opportunity to travel and meet us. We will continue to share memories- to laugh and cry together and then go on to make more memories. Thank you for thinking of us.

  13. Dear Susan, Barbara, Noel, Helen, Bernadette & Family.

Words may not suffice to express the heartfelt sorrow that we feel for the passing of your father and our life long friend.

There are many memories we’ve shared of your fathers greatness, humour, and stories over the years, and though months or years went by, it always felt like time never passed when we met up again.

It’s hard to lose someone who meant so much to all of us, and even harder that we can’t all be together to say goodbye. We want you to know we’re with you in spirit, now and in the days and weeks ahead.

Those that depart from this Earth never truly leave, for they are still alive in our hearts, and through us, they live on. Remembering your wonderful father and wishing you comfort.

    Sending all our love.

    The McMurray Family
    • Thank you for your condolences. The family enjoyed the catch ups we have had recently, even though they have been centred around sad times. I think the true meaning of being a friend is that you don’t have to see each other often to make connections. Sometimes they are just always there. How great it is that you could just pick up from where you left off. We were sorry that you were unable to be with us today in person but we know that your kind thoughts were always with us.

    • We believe Dad , Jimmy and Mum will be dancing up in heaven having a good chin wag about old times. Yes it was time to rest the weary legs but as you know this is still not easy to come to terms with. Dad so valued his friendship with your Dad. True friends are very hard to come by. Your family as you say, were part of our family too. We were proud to be a witness to this friendship.

    • We believe Jimmy, Dad and Mum will be together having a great old chin wag about old times. As you say, it was time to rest the weary legs, however that doesn’t make it any easier to come to terms with, as you well know. Jimmy was a true friend of Dad’s. Your family was so much a part of ours. We were proud to be a part of this special friendship.

You were everyone’s Pa, a true gentleman and a family man.

  18. Pa,
How lucky we were to have you in our lives for so long, so many fond memories, such a character. My last grandparent, gone but not forgotten.

    Nigel Bird
    • Indeed how lucky you were to have grown up with such special grandparents! There was never a time that I visited Pa without him asking about how you were going. There is so much of Pa in you and I think Pa could see the similarities often. He knew that you were a hard worker just like himself. You are independent and strong. You only have to stop and reflect and listen with your heart and you will hear the wisdom of your pa. He would want you to continue to make a success of your life and to keep on having adventures as you use your hands to make and create. Remember all the good times and think of him often with love. xxx

      Barbara

  22. Pa’s ears truely listened,
    his arms always held,
    his love was never ending.
I am so fortunate to have had something that made saying goodbye so hard.
He asked for so little but gave so much.
I adored my pa. My special memories I hold will never be forgotten.
Pa’s values have guided me in becoming the adult I have become. Pa is truely an Inspiration. He had so much love for family and others, he was committed to hard work, and had such determination in living with self pride.
My next fruit cake bake will have an extra stir for you Pa.
My children have been so privileged in having a great grandfather who had shown them what love is and what family means. They will miss his touch, his voice, his presence.
    Rest In Peace Pa.
You will always be in our hearts.
    Never forgotten. Xxx

    • How right you were with your words- his arms they always held and he really listened. He was always up for a cuddle from his family. What a way to remember Pa. You were more than a grand daughter. You were a carer, a bringer of talk, love and life in his home. You really were like another daughter in so many ways going above and beyond with nothing being too much trouble. Pa was so proud of all your achievements and was always interested in your life and that of your family. He has watched them grow with so much love and laughter and so looked forward to visits from you and your family. I am sure all the memories you all have of Pa will continue to be shared and laughed about together throughout your life.xx

      Barbara
  23. Dad/Pa/Old Pa, We are heartbroken to have lost you. You always made us laugh and have left us with cherished memories and many funny Pa stories. You are again with Mum in God’s loving arms. We love you!
Noel, Cathy, Michael, Rowan, Leonie, Anthony, Sarah, Erin, Mikaila, Ruben, Harriet, Willa, Abe, Parker and Kailey.

    Noel Stevenson
    • Yes Dad enjoyed making everyone laugh, in particular he enjoyed laughing along with your family. He enjoyed the catch ups on the phone and in person and was always wanting to hear news of the family. He always had a smile on his face after a phone call and you put an extra step in his life when he knew any of you were coming down. We are so glad you were able to be with Dad before he died. He was so looking forward to you coming down. Not only did Dad appreciate you being there to jolly him up but the rest of us needed you there as well as we shared our heart ache. Pa would have been very cheesed off that you all couldn’t come down to the funeral to laugh and cry with all the family, due to the restrictions, but then he wouldn’t have wanted you to be put out either. I think he would have appreciated another jig or two at his funeral. This would definitely have made him smile or laugh again. I am sure you have many funny Pa stories that you will continue to share throughout your lives. We look forward to hearing them too. Mum and Dad are back together again ready to watch over us and continue to guide us through our lives. We were certainly very lucky to have had them as our parents. Love to you all xxxxx

      Barbara
  24. Thoughts and prayers are with of you and your dear family Barbara.
    As St. Augustine once said,
” Those we have loved and lost , are no longer where they were,
but are always where we are.”
He also wrote, “that our loved ones, now deceased, are much closer to us then we realise.
I felt privileged to hear the words and sentiments you have shared of your loving father. I have some memories of the little house in Cranbourne and your loving parents, may they rest in peace together now, in God’s loving embrace.
I would like to reconnect, however sadly, as I have lost your contact details I have not been able to express my sincere condolences. Take care dear friend. Elizabeth Overdyk.

    Tony and Liz Overdyk
    • Thank you so much Elizabeth for your thoughtful words and prayers. We are indeed feeling the loss of Dad but know that he led a good and long life and was always surrounded by the love of his family. We still have two of the roses, blue moon and a white rose, from your farm, from so very long ago , at a guess they must be 50 year old now still thriving in the garden. Dad kept them alive after mum died and was indeed very proud of them. It is comforting to hear the words of St. Augustine as I know that those we love are still so very close to us and never really leave us. Thank you for being a friend.

      Barbara
  25. Dad no words can say how I feel . Just know I was so proud to have you as our Dad. I’m so lost without you . Your turn to rest now with no more pain . One very strong proud man . Dad I will Always love you Helen xx

    Helen Smith
    • Dad was indeed so proud of you too Helen. You were very lucky to have developed a special relationship with Dad as you cared for him over the years. He relied on you so much, as did we all, to help see to his care. We can’t thank you enough for all that you did for Dad when we were unable to help. You were never far from Dad, be it by phone calls, visits, taking him places or whatever. You were always attentive to his needs, sacrificing your own on many occasions. He knew that you would always be there for him as he had your unconditional support. We all knew that it soon going to be time for Dad to close his eyes and rest. We knew the struggle he had to keep his pain away from our eyes. Yes he was a very proud and private man. You helped him to maintain his dignity and ensure that he could stay home right to the end. He would be eternally thankful to you for this. Stay strong and know that the whole family are feeling the loss of Dad too and together we will ensure Dad’s love for us will always live on in all we do.

      Barbara
  26. I could never have asked for a better Pa, you made me laugh more than anyone I have ever known and you meant the world to all of us and still do. Thank you for being you.

    Love you.

    Rowan Stevenson
    • A laugh Pa always got from you Rowan. You made him laugh as much as he made you laugh. He was so lucky to have grandchildren who loved him so much and who were always willing to put a smile on his face. Hold onto all the happy memories to pass onto the family.

      Barbara
  27. Pa,
There is not a moment that goes by where I don’t miss you. Every memory we have is a positive one filled with joy and happiness. You made us laugh, you made us smile. I only wish you were able to meet Parker and Kailey as I know you would have loved them to bits and they you. We miss you so much Pa you are so amazing. We Love You Pa
Anthony, Mikaila, Parker and Kailey xxxx

    Anthony Stevenson
    • Pa already knew your precious young family through photos and stories shared. He was indeed proud to see you growing into the family man so full of responsibility. Continue to laugh lots as you bring Pa’s laughter and humour into your family. Pa loved all his grandchildren and great grandchildren to bits.

      Barbara
  28. Pa,
Words cannot say how much we miss you. You’ve left a massive hole in our lives, but we are so glad you are back with Nan who we know you love and missed so dearly.
Thank you for demonstrating to me how to be an absolute gentleman and real family man.
Henry loved going to see Pa and had a special bond with him.

I love you so much Pa.
    Love David

    David
    • Pa was always thrilled to see and hear about Henry. He loved watching you as a parent and seeing how you were teaching Henry so many things. He was in awe of what Henry could do. You were indeed lucky to have watched the relationship that Pa and Nanna had as you were growing up . They certainly have left lasting memories of how we too can be family people who love and care for one another. Keep sharing Pa’s stories as you continue moving through your life; keeping the love that both Pa and Nanna gave to you alive. Pa was so proud of you all.

      Barbara
