Condolences / Guest Book

  1. I cried when I learned about Peter James passing although I know that he has just gone home to be with the Lord. I had the privilege of being touched by his kindness and friendliness . I’ll never forget his smile, warmth and calmness. Till we meet again Peter. Who would have thought that the last time I said goodbye to you during our last service would be the last. It’s sad but it made me realised more how short life is.

  14. It was with shock I learnt Peter had passed and then followed prayer for comfort for Jane. I saw them both having such powerful unity. Peter was such a man of influence. He carried authority with love. He was such a great role model to my Nic as a boy. Peter & Jane were part of the gift of community, which bought healing to both Nic & myself. Our lives were so positively impacted by our time at Cardinia Christian Church, where we first met Peter and Jane and many wonderful others. I know Peter is with Jesus in great health and joy. My warmest cuddles and prayers are for you Jane. Thank you for sharing your life and Peters with us and always pointing us to Jesus. It is soooooo powerfully appreciated. 15. Pete was and continues to be a tremendous role model to many. Someone we certainly have looked up to for the past 5 years or so. Iain remembers the first coffee. A champion for the cause of God’s immense mercy, love and grace to be made known in every household in the Cardinia Shire. Though, I’m sure, not perfect, he was a rare breed that actually practiced what they preached. We prayed and prayed for healing, and now he is totally well in the arms of his Saviour. Deepest sympathy and love to Jane and the rest of the family here and abroad.

  16. Dear Jane, it was a great privilege to minister with your husband at healing rooms. He was man of wisdom, compassion and authority. He was a great leader and always believed in the unity of God’s church for the kingdom to advance. May God raise more prayer warriors and leaders like Peter in Pakenham & Cardnia to carry the legacy Peter left behind. May the good Lord comfort you and your children with His peace and love.

  47. Our deepest condolences to Jane and the family. I personally only knew Peter for a short time and sadly never had the opportunity to know him well, however I saw his heart for God and people reflected in chats that I had with him. These condolences and his celebration service is very honouring of him and shows the calibre of man that he was. He is now with the Lord and at peace.

  48. Just wanted to share a memory of when I went one time to stay with Peter and Jane. They took me out to dinner to a French restaurant where they used take some dear friends June and Andrej… and introduced me to escargot. I was extremely thankful for the garlic sauce…, but it was something Peter never let me forget… often ribbing me about eating snails. His love and validation of people and sense of humour will be sorely missed x x

  52. Our condolences to our lovely Jane and family, praying for you all at this time.
Peter was and always will be our inspiration, with a heart full of gold towards everyone he knew. A man of great faith in Jesus. We will never forget how he would pray over Olivia everyday, especially Sunday mornings he would sit next to her hold her hand and say ” Hey Liv its Uncle Pete here, how are you today” she always gave him a massive smile and had a chat with him, even if Olivia was sound asleep he would still hold her hand and pray, Olivia loved you soooo much. The vision Peter had of Olivia dancing we will keep believing, will happen. We are all going to miss you so much. Now he rests with our amazing Jesus.

  54. I have waited until after Peter’s funeral Service online today to publish my thoughts and condolences for him. My wife and I were up at 5am. U.K. time today to join the service. It was lovely to hear of Peter’s past achievements and the depth of his involvement with the church. And a big pat on the back to Jane for standing up so well and recounting their wonderful and fun days together.

My early relationship with Peter was back in the early 1960’s when we both played cricket in the U.K. for Brighton & Hove Cricket Club and another very old club formed in 1870 called Brighton Brunswick C.C. Peter loved his cricket and was a good number 4/5 bat and spin bowler. I was an opening fast bowler who batted at 7/8. Our friendship ended when he emigrated to Australia but was renewed again when I was appointed Secretary of Brighton Brunswick C.C. and sent regular match reports to members past and present including Peter.

Over recent years Peter and I met whenever he visited the U.K. We played golf together with his brother and my other friends, and my wife Sandie and I had lunch with him last year. Our friendship was cemented further when Sandie and I visited Australia in 2017 with the intention to watch Australia play England on Boxing Day at the MCG. On learning of our intention to visit Australia Peter immediately invited us to spend Christmas with him and his wife Jane and we had the pleasure of also meeting their friends whom he invited for drinks on Christmas Eve.

Not only did Peter organise brilliant seating tickets for us at the MCG but he also spent the day with us. The only disappointment for me was Australia won the toss and elected to bat and only lost one wicket on the day! My wife was deeply upset when seeking a comfort-break she found on her return that Australia lost their only wicket to fall that day! As Jane commented at the funeral today, Peter was a great prankster and he kept pulling my wife’s leg by repeatably insisting she retire and suggesting she was obviously a good omen for England taking more wickets!

Jane and Peter went out of their way to make Sandie and me welcome over the festive period and entertained us royally at their Christmas dinner. I remember well Sandie helping Peter to make the stuffing for the turkey! Either suet is not a regular addition to making stuffing in Australia or Peter and Jane had never made it before!! But we all laughed at the result of the breadcrumbs, parsley and thyme all held together by some of their own home-grown olive oil and whipped eggs! It certainly did not detract from the enjoyable dinner that followed.

More revelations were revealed over the next couple of days as they took us on a tour of their smallholding garden and introduced us to the wealth of vegetables, fruit, and especially the Olive trees they grew for oil. Looking after all the ground and plants was clearly a major task. They also took us out to visits to walks which they enjoyed together.

I had no inkling of Peter’s religious beliefs until we sat down to that Christmas dinner and he said Grace. Afterwards, his involvement as a lay-preacher and love of the church became more evident in our discussions. And on our departure, he asked Sandie and I to take a seat in their lounge and if we would object to him saying a prayer for us. Standing behind us, he laid his hands on us both and in beautifully created words he said a prayer for each of us. In my case this included a prayer for the healing of severe pains in my left knee. Peter’s sincere belief in God and his love for mankind deeply disturbed me and he has made me reflect ever since on my own religious beliefs. Especially, as my knee has not been anywhere near as problematic as it was before we visited Australia!

I was expecting to meet up with Peter and renew our rivalries on the golf course in 2021 when he again visited the U.K. and his family over here. But I was shaken to receive his email in August informing me he had contracted MDS and was now receiving weekly blood transfusions. He was starting on a blind trial drug that day and in conjunction with other injections he said it would take a few months to see any effect. He said the treatment was good and coupled with prayers he had hope.

He was still a keen follower of Brighton & Hove Albion which is now a Premier League football club and we regularly exchanged comments on their results. It was then an even greater shock after I had sent him my latest update on 21 September to receive an email from Jane next day informing me Peter had sadly died over the weekend.

Peter will be deeply missed by all who knew him and were involved with him in the church and in his religious beliefs. I shall certainly miss his company and the enjoyable email exchanges we had every 3/4 months.

Rest in peace my dear friend. I shall miss your company and friendship dearly.
